Dartford Open
4th November
Orpington Novices
Challenge
South East Wow, what a great turn out for the Regional Biathlon on a cold, wet and very windy
Sunday at Tonbridge Sports Centre for 29 members of Dartford District swimming club.
For many this was their first Biathlon, but the weather conditions did nothing to
dampen their spirits.
We started in the pool with our younger swimmers in the Youth E girls 50m working
up the ages groups to the more experienced Senior Women swimming 200m.
Almost all
the swimmers produced a personal best time with lots of support for their piers &
family, it was friendly, relaxed but very exciting.
7 swimmers make it to the Finals in May, which will be held at Wyndley Leisure Centre,
Sutton Coldfield Birmingham as they were placed in the top 6. We also have 4 teams
attending which will make it quite an event for the club, as we have not had such
a large entry for a number of years.
Wishing them all Good Luck
Lynda Pinkess

Dartford District Swimming Club (DDSC) in Kent is celebrating becoming swim21 accredited during its centenary year. swim21 accreditation is the national benchmark for excellence awarded by the ASA, the national governing body for swimming and aquatic disciplines in England. To read the full press release on ASA website follow this link.
The club, which runs sessions every day of the week, from children’s swimming lessons to masters sessions, has experienced continued success since achieving the accreditation. In 2011 the club had its best year at the Kent Championships, the club’s swimmers competed and won medals at the South East ASA Regional Championships and maintained their place in the 1stDivision of the National Arena League.
The DDSC committee recognised that the club was already doing many of the things required of swim21 clubs and decided to work towards accreditation to ensure that they were offering safe, effective and quality services. Alongside swim21, the club also achieved Clubmark which is the quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections awarded by Sport England.
Andrea Knight, swim21 Coordinator at Dartford District Swimming Club said, “As a club we knew we were already doing a lot of the things that swim21 asked for, but we are always looking for ways to make ourselves better.
“We are known as a friendly club, but we also wanted to be sure that our swimmers, parents and coaches were part of a safe and effective club. Gaining swim21 accreditation and Clubmark means that we know we are doing things the correct way which is very reassuring as a coach and club official.”
Since achieving accreditation, the club has also been able to access more funding opportunities which has enabled them to train more coaching staff and volunteers.
Andrea said, “It has been a lot of hard work but we are very proud to have achieved our swim21 status in our 100thyear.”
swim21 accreditation is the ASA’s ‘Quality Mark’ for clubs and the ASA’s way of ensuring every athlete – whatever their age or level of experience – belongs to a club that provides the best possible support and environment.
Specifically it is about putting the swimmers first and ensuring athletes are following the pathway the ASA recognises for training and competition (via the principles of Long Term Athlete Development).
