DARTFORD DISTRICT INAUGORAL BIATHLON
DARTFORD DISTRICT INAUGORAL BIATHLON
Sunday 27 APRIL
Hours of back room work came into fruition on Sunday as Dartford hosted their first Biathlon. The event involving running and swimming and results tabled on a points handicap system took place at Fairfield and Dartford park.
Competitors came from as far as Basingstoke , Sevenoaks and Bromley. Dartford put up a very strong but junior squad (where were the older ones?-Ed) and the weather held for most of the day.
The morning swim threw in personal bests aplenty with Melanie Evans, and son Gareth, producing the highest points wins in the pool. Once again the ‘yingfas' took a splashing (if you don't know now, where have you been?)
The track run also produced some mighty fine athletic displays with Saffron Salih and Gareth Evans producing the best points. Gareth is in the National Pentathlon development squad and has eyes for the 2012 olympics, watch this space. It should be noted that Kevin was the only one to get really wet due to the time he was out on the track.
Dartford didn't quite sweep the board with the trophies but it was not far off.
Thanks go to Karen and Darren Eyers for the back ground organisation, Andrea and Kevin Knight the computer boffins and to all the helpers (too many to name) who, as always, give their time freely. Not forgetting our wonderful Biathletes, most of them finishing with a smile in the end.
Happy swimming (and running)
KEVIN LADLEY
